Diamond Rock School (early 1900s) before restoration

Capital Appeal for Stucco Repairs
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

As you would expect, all old buildings require lots and lots of tender loving care. Diamond Rock Schoolhouse is no exception. Although we have done our very best
to maintain the schoolhouse, we are at a point in time where repairs to the exterior stucco are necessary. The following letter was sent out to our friends and
neighbors near the schoolhouse. Please take a few moments to read our appeal below, and kindly give some thought to helping to support our effort. Every penny
counts, and every one will be appreciated and tax deductible!

If you are in a position to make a donation - and we hope you are - please........

Dear Neighbor,

The Diamond Rock Octagonal Schoolhouse, located on the corner of Diamond Rock Hill and Yellow Springs Road, Tredyffrin Township, is an historical landmark in Chester County. It was built and funded by local residents in 1818 and was the first “free” or public school in the area.

When the school closed in 1864, the building fell into disrepair and in 1909 was restored by interested neighbors. By 1918 an association of trustees was formed to
maintain and preserve the building and property and to make the schoolhouse available to the public. For more than one hundred years stewardship of the historic
building has been carried out by volunteers, members, and trustees of the Diamond Rock Schoolhouse Preservation Association.

The Diamond Rock Schoolhouse Preservation Association relies solely on donations from visitors and members. Currently the building is faced with the need for
stucco repair to the exterior walls. The association received and accepted a proposal from de Gruchy Masonry Restoration, specializing in landmark conservation,
at a cost of nearly $9,000 with work to begin in the spring of 2014. Because our annual income is less than $1,000, we are appealing to our neighbors, members,
and local residents for financial help with the project. Your gift towards the wall repair will ensure the continued public enjoyment and the future of our historic
octagonal schoolhouse.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
